John C.
Brown
—
For more than 20 years, John Brown
has helped businesses and individuals resolve disputes as
efficiently and inexpensively as possible.
After earning his undergraduate
degree at the University of Virginia, Mr. Brown graduated in 1992
from William & Mary Law School, which was ranked among the top law
schools in the country by The National Jurist in the 1990s. He then
clerked in two courts, building a sound foundation for his career
and gaining valuable expertise in trial procedure.
Mr. Brown then developed a successful
practice as a trial attorney. He has tried more than 30 cases. In
his last jury trial, Mr. Brown was the lead counsel for a small Bay
Area company seeking several million dollars from a Fortune 200
defendant for breach of contract. The defendant refused to make any
settlement offer before trial, but Mr. Brown convinced nine of the
twelve jurors to find in favor of the plaintiff, ultimately leading
to a favorable settlement of the case.
Mr. Brown primarily handles
commercial, real estate, construction and employment matters,
particularly focusing on contract and fraud claims. He has
represented, among others, manufacturers, construction contractors,
real estate brokers, commercial landlords and tenants, corporate
shareholders, professional service providers, and numerous business
owners.
Mr. Brown's clients include j2 Global
Communications, Inc., which runs the popular "eFax" service. For
several years in the mid-2000s, Mr. Brown spearheaded the efforts of
j2 to put an end to junk faxing in the United States. Mr. Brown has
obtained millions of dollars in settlement payments from violators
of consumer protection laws, such as those prohibiting junk faxing.
Mr. Brown also does pro bono animal welfare work. Among other
goodwill efforts, he has worked to help shut down unlawful puppy
mills and to improve conditions for animals at shelters run by local
governments.
In addition to being a member of
Redenbacher & Brown, LLP, Mr. Brown is a member of Cornerstone Law
Group.
